A three unit classroom block for the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School at Kaladan has been completed. A toilet project that was supposed to be attached to the classroom block is however yet to take off.

The Headmistress of the School, MS. Nancy Gyamea in an interview disclosed that, the classroom block is yet to be handed over as they have not being furnished. She disclosed that, there was a misunderstanding over the location of the toilet project resulting delays in the construction of the toilet facility. Ms Gyamea however added that the school has made available a small piece of land adjacent the newly constructed three unit classroom block and hopes the assembly will start work soon.

In an interview with Alhaji Shehu Kadiri, the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, confirmed that, the toilet facility aspect of the project stalled because of disagreement over land. He disclosed that, the school authorities gave a piece of land but said the land was not adequate for the execution of the project. Alhaji Kadiri stated that, the Metropolitan Assembly is evaluating other options including and will soon come up with a solution to the problem.

The school currently has no toilet facility and pupils have to cross the Lamashegu-Accra road for open defecation. Teachers of the school also turn to the nearest public toilet to attend to nature’s call. The absence of a toilet facility in the school creates inconvenience for staff and pupils of the school especially female pupils. A visit to the school revealed that, most classrooms are congested whilst there is very little space left for other projects.

The GHS 99,931.35 construction project is being undertaken by WABELYA CO. LTD with funding from the World Bank under the District Development Facility (DDF). It forms part of measures by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to improve educational infrastructure and sanitation across the metropolis. The contractor was not immediately available for comments. It should be noted that the project was started in August 2014 and was supposed to be completed sometime in December, 2015.

  • Sean,60 years old and a big mortgage. Uggh. That, in this ch8s;akate&#e217ps opinion is a big problem right there. At that age, one should either be down to a minimal payment or be paid off.
